Should you go to Thailand in August 2025: weather in Phuket and Pattaya, reviews, prices

From July 15, 2024, Belarusian citizens will be able to stay in Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days, but it is better to take out medical insurance in advance: treatment here is expensive. The rainy season continues in the country during the summer, and many consider August to be the "wrong" month to travel. In reality, the low season has significant advantages — quieter resorts and significantly more affordable prices.

We studied the weather conditions in August in the two most popular destinations—Phuket and Pattaya—read the latest travel reviews, and calculated the approximate budget for a vacation at the end of summer 2025. We also discuss alternatives, entertainment, and what to expect from the Thai climate during the wettest period.

Phuket in August

What kind of weather awaits tourists?

The average daily air temperature remains at +31...+32 °C, and at night it drops only to +27...+28 °C. Humidity is close to 85%, which makes the heat feel even more intense. Precipitation decreases compared to June and July, but is still impressive — about 280 mm in 31 days. Rain falls mainly at night and in short showers during the day; if there is no cyclone over the island, clear "windows" can last for 4–7 days in a row.

Summer monsoons cause high waves and underwater currents. It is safer to swim at beaches facing east and south: Nai Yang, Yanui, Rawai, and Panwa. Here, the waves are noticeably smaller, and lifeguard towers rarely raise red flags.

Things to do during bad weather

  • Boat trips to Phang Nga Bay, Phi Phi Islands, or Krabi Province are only possible in calm weather.
  • Deep-sea fishing: in August, schools of tuna approach the coast, and the chance of catching a 20-kilogram "giant" is particularly high.
  • The Central Festival, Jungceylon, and Robinson shopping centers offer refuge from tropical downpours and humid heat.
  • Visit Wat Chalong and Big Buddha temples, a snake farm, and pineapple plantations.
  • Spa salons and Thai cooking classes are popular alternatives to the beach on cloudy days.

From a tourist review: "Summer in Phuket is fruit season. Mangosteen for 35 baht, lychee, durian, and almost empty beaches. It rains mostly at night, and during the day the sun hides behind the clouds and isn't so hot. The only downside is the murky water due to the waves, but accommodation prices are half what they are in winter."

August in Pattaya

Climate and sea

The central coast of the Gulf of Siam receives less rainfall than the Andaman Sea. About 170 mm of rain falls per month, with daytime temperatures stable at +31 °C and nighttime temperatures bringing slight relief to +28 °C. The sea warms up to +29 °C, but due to waves and sand suspension, the water often appears cloudy. The winds subside every day, and in the second half of August, long sunny spells of 5–6 days are not uncommon.

What to see and where to go

If the storm prevents them from swimming, tourists choose:

  1. Nong Nooch Tropical Garden with elephant show and orchid collection.
  2. The crocodile farm or the Sriracha tiger zone farm.
  3. Mini Siam Open Air Museum or Ramayana Park.
  4. Thepprasit and Walking Street night markets — sampling street food and seafood.
  5. One-day trips to Koh Lan and Koh Sichang: the sand there is cleaner than on city beaches.

On August 12, Thailand celebrates the Queen's birthday, so the center of Pattaya is decorated with banners in royal colors and free concerts are held. At the end of the month, the seafood festival begins—chefs prepare crabs, shrimp, and squid right on the waterfront.

How much do tours cost for August 2025?

The low season formally lasts from May to October, with the deepest price drop occurring in August. According to statistics from recent years, the difference with the "high" season in December reaches 35-45%. The cheapest vacation is in Pattaya, slightly more expensive in Krabi and Phuket, and the leader in terms of cost remains Samui, where the weather in August, on the contrary, is the most stable.

Example: a week in Phuket at a 3★ hotel with breakfast included and departure from Moscow in mid-August — from $1,500 for two people. A similar package to Pattaya starts at $1,200. Keep an eye out for last-minute deals — during sales, prices can drop by another 10–15%.

Practical tips

  • The sun in Thailand burns even through thick clouds, so SPF 50+ sunscreen and a panama hat are essential.
  • The sea during a storm is dangerous for children: rip currents and jellyfish are more common. Choose bays protected by reefs or rocks.
  • Before departure, take out insurance, make copies of your documents, and download offline maps to your smartphone.
  • If you plan to rent a bike, bring your category A driver's license—the police regularly check documents.
  • To obtain a visa in advance, submit an electronic application at least one week in advance: this will help you avoid queues on site.
