Kemer in summer: beaches, sights and shopping

In summer, all our thoughts are occupied with one question: "Where should we go on vacation?" We understand that it can be difficult to decide on a destination when planes fly to even the most remote corners of the world. Is it possible to find a place that combines the sea and mountains, tranquility and fun, shopping and incredible nature? We already have the answer: you just need to book tours to Kemer from Minsk. This resort, which is one of the top best locations for vacationing in the country, will not leave you indifferent and will prove that Turkey is still capable of surprising even the most seasoned tourist.

How long does the journey take?

We would like to warn you in advance: there is no local airport in Kemer, but this does not prevent it from welcoming thousands of travelers every year and receiving rave reviews. After departing from Minsk, you will land in Antalya, and then you will have to travel another 40 km by bus. In addition, you will need to get from the airport to the bus station and buy a ticket for an intercity bus. However, if you are traveling as part of a package tour, the transfer in comfortable transport will not cause any hassle or additional stress.

What are the must-see attractions in Kemer?

History buffs, your time has come! And these are not just big words, but a reality you will encounter at the resort. Surprisingly, the mythical Mount Olympus is within arm's reach. Not Mount Olympus, but Olympos, or more precisely, its ruins. Just head outside Kemer to see the ruins of ancient Olympos and Phaselis, which were famous 300 years before our era. Plus, in Phaselis, you'll find not only ancient roads, baths, and marketplaces, but also the burial place of the great Alexander the Great.

By the way, have you ever wondered about the origin of the name Kemer? The secret is simple: it all comes down to the mythical Chimera, which took the body of a goat, the head of a lion, and the tail of a dragon. But if we are to believe Homer, Bellerophon rode Pegasus and destroyed the monster, although the fire on the top of Mount Yanartash still burns.

Have you visited Kemer and not explored the Beldibi Cave? That is unacceptable! Just 19 kilometers from the city lies a true gem of the coast—an ancient cave where excavations have revealed rock paintings depicting hunting scenes and drawings of gods, as well as artifacts from the Paleolithic era. How often in life do you get the chance to see historical monuments with more than 50,000 years of history? As a bonus, you also get to relax by a magnificent waterfall located nearby.

Have you already fallen in love with the local nature? Then add the Geynuk Canyon to your list of attractions. It will appeal equally to lovers of beautiful landscapes and sports enthusiasts. Don't miss the opportunity to walk along one of the trails or rent a boat. And if you dare to swim in one of the lagoons, be prepared for an ice-cold shower.

The Moonlight complex is an excellent option for family leisure with children. Here, children will have a great time at the dolphinarium and kids' club while their parents visit shopping centers, cafes, and restaurants, sunbathe on the beach, or play a few sets on the tennis court.

When is the best time to swim at the beaches?

If you prefer a beach vacation, Kemer is ideal for this purpose from early May to October. It is best to visit the resort in May and June, as you will not have to escape the heat, and the water temperature of +26°C will allow you to feel as comfortable as possible.

Be prepared for the fact that the beaches of Kemer are covered with pebbles. However, on the coast of some hotels , you can find sand that the owners bring in themselves. In addition, there is access to the city's sandy beaches, but it is better to map out the places where you will swim and sunbathe in advance.

As practice shows, the vast majority of hotels offer pebble beaches, which is clearly a bonus for diving enthusiasts. Why? The crystal-clear water allows you to see the underwater world as if it were in the palm of your hand.

By the way, many beaches in Kemer have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag. This award is a kind of "Oscar" for coastlines. To receive it, you must meet the 33 requirements of the Environmental Education Foundation. For a wow effect, we recommend swimming at the beaches of Moonlight, Tekirova, and Cirali.

What shopping destinations are there in Kemer?

It all depends on your budget and interests, because Turkey is famous for goods to suit every pocket. If markets are your priority, head for the textile market and the fabric bazaar. The prices here are quite reasonable, and the quality of terry towels, scarves, gold and silver items, and natural outerwear will pay for itself. Don't delay and come to the local sellers as early as possible to avoid the influx of tourists and shop without overpaying.

Well, if you don't enjoy colorful shopping in the eastern markets, check out the shopping malls. Head to Hadrian Group and Mona Lisa and make a shopping plan in advance. They sell top-notch fur and leather goods, as well as jewelry made locally and abroad. But don't expect an easy stroll, because these places are well-known to travelers who are looking to get a new fur coat or diamond earrings at a good price.

Ceramics

All items are handmade, and you would be hard pressed to find a more authentic gift. Ceramics are sold everywhere: in modest market stalls, themed shops, and luxury shopping centers. Look for truly rare items: patterned cups, vases with unusual shapes, tableware in rare colors, or authentic figurines. The artisans give free rein to their imagination and advise you to do the same.

Food

The local cuisine is legendary, and you can share Turkey's gastronomic culture through honey, olive oil, spices, Turkish delight, and baklava. Don't forget to buy traditional tea and coffee, as well as olives. Buy fresh produce at markets, where vendors will also treat you to their goods, or in stores. By the way, be sure to bargain, because Eastern bazaars are not complete without price negotiations.

Jewelry

Cheap, high quality, and diverse. What are we talking about? That's right, Turkish gold and silver products. You have to agree that it's hardly worth giving up savings on a new bracelet or ring if you're planning to buy them.

But the burden of the "jewelry" location is borne by the Mona Lisa shopping center, which we wrote about earlier.

Where to eat in Kemer?

On any trip, the demand for food is based on the principle of "tasty and inexpensive." In this regard, you can rely on Kemer, because you won't have to spend a significant part of your budget on food. Here's a life hack: look for establishments with the word Lokantasi in their name. This is where the locals come for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and you can easily judge the quality of the restaurant by the number of Turks inside. At the same time, the prices won't make you think twice about saving money, and the generous portions will keep you feeling full for a long time. We've already written about which national dishes you should try in Turkey here.
